About This Event
The State of the Map (SotM) Africa Conference is a bi-annual regional event that celebrates the culture of open mapping, open data, and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and their impact across Africa. This year's conference will take place in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, continuing the momentum established since the inception of the first SotM Africa conference hosted by the OpenStreetMap community in Uganda in 2017. The conference aims to strengthen the OpenStreetMap network in Africa, positioning it as an integral part of the global OpenStreetMap and Open GIS movement.SotM Africa 2025 will feature a rich program over three days, including talks, workshops, and collaborative sessions designed to engage participants from around the world. Attendees will have the opportunity to discuss challenges, share experiences, and celebrate the achievements in mapping efforts throughout the years. The conference will be held at the University of Dar es Salaam, the oldest and largest public university in Tanzania, providing a scenic venue occupying 1,625 acres on Observation Hill, just 13 kilometers from the city center. This event will not only highlight the importance of open mapping in Africa but also foster collaboration and innovation among its participants.
