About This Event
The 'Training on Application of GIS in Agriculture and Climate Change' is an innovative workshop designed to enhance the skills of agricultural professionals by utilizing Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and remote sensing technologies. This training, held at Hashi Energy in Kigali, Rwanda, aims to address the challenges faced in agricultural and climate change interventions due to the underutilization of spatial data. Participants will gain valuable insights into the integration of spatial and Earth Observation (EO) data to foster better decision-making in agriculture and food security contexts. The course covers a comprehensive array of topics, including the fundamentals of Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E), the significance of spatial data availability, and the principles of GIS and remote sensing. Participants will learn how to effectively use GIS as a monitoring tool in agricultural and climate change setups, conduct participatory GIS (PGIS) at the community level, and apply mobile data gathering tools for data collection. Additionally, the training will delve into the exploration of interlinkages between agriculture and climate change, data acquisition techniques, database design, and the integration of imagery and remote sensing into GIS applications. With a focus on practical learning, the course is delivered by seasoned trainers with extensive expertise in the field. Participants will engage in hands-on activities, group works, and case studies to solidify their understanding. Upon completion of the training, individuals will receive a certification that is recognized in the industry. The course is designed to accommodate the needs of organizations as a tailor-made option and offers arrangements for accommodation and airport transfers upon request. The event is expected to attract around 100 participants and exhibitors from Rwanda and Nigeria, contributing to its significance in the region. The training's unique approach and well-structured content position it as a vital resource for enhancing the application of GIS in agriculture and climate change initiatives.
