Training Course on Mapping/Visualization of Agriculture & Climate Change Using ArcGIS

The Training Course on Mapping and Visualization of Agriculture and Climate Change using ArcGIS aims to enhance the skills of agricultural professionals involved in rural development and climate change programming. This course addresses the critical issue of underperformance in agricultural and climate change interventions due to the lack of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and remote sensing technologies. Participants will learn how to utilize GIS as a monitoring tool for various projects and program activities related to agriculture and climate change. The course emphasizes the importance of spatial data infrastructure (SDI) and the use of participatory GIS (PGIS) at the community level. By the end of the training, attendees will be adept at conducting agriculture and climate change modeling using GIS, as well as collecting data through mobile data gathering tools, thereby integrating GIS within new and existing agricultural and climate change activities.The curriculum includes essential topics such as the fundamentals of Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E), data collection tools and techniques, and the exploration of interlinkages between agriculture and climate change. Participants will gain proficiency in GPS, GIS, and remote sensing principles, as well as hands-on experience in mobile data gathering and GIS mapping. The course also covers advanced subjects such as data acquisition, database design and development, and geo-spatial analysis. Participants will engage in online publishing of maps and GIS outputs, learning to work with platforms such as Google Maps and Fusion Tables. The training will be led by seasoned trainers with extensive professional experience, utilizing a combination of practical activities, theoretical instruction, group work, and case studies. Participants will receive training manuals and additional reference materials, and upon successful completion, they will be awarded a recognized certification.
