About This Event
The IJMS Conference is set to take place at the Ridge Motorsports Park in Shelton, Washington, marking a significant milestone as it is the first time this event is held in this region. Known as the 'Gateway to the Olympics' and 'Christmastown USA,' Shelton is located approximately 40 miles southwest of Seattle and 20 miles northwest of Olympia, Washington’s state capital. The Ridge Motorsports Park itself is renowned for its challenging and technical road course, designed by Steve Crawford, which measures 2.47 miles in length with 16 turns, a chicane, and an elevation change of over 300 feet per lap. The venue is surrounded by the stunning natural beauty of Douglas fir and vibrant maple trees, as well as a diverse array of wildlife, offering attendees a picturesque backdrop for the conference. The International Journal of Motorcycle Studies (IJMS) is dedicated to exploring all aspects of motorcycling culture, from riding experiences and racing to the history of motorcycles and their representation in media. The conference aims to foster discussions among contributors from the motorcycle community, including academics and enthusiasts. This event builds on over a decade of annual conferences, previously held in various locations such as Colorado Springs, Birmingham, and London. Last year’s notable conference took place in Akureyri, Iceland, where participants experienced the unique natural phenomena of the region. The IJMS Conference continues to attract a global audience, with attendees and presenters coming from diverse countries including Cyprus, Germany, and the United Kingdom. This year, the conference promises a rich program that highlights the expansive influence of motorcycle studies, set against the backdrop of the beautiful Hood Canal and the surrounding Olympic Peninsula.
