Sustainable Planning with BIM: Use Cases, Methods, and Tools

The seminar titled Sustainable Planning with BIM: Use Cases, Methods, and Tools is designed to provide participants with essential knowledge on utilizing Building Information Modeling (BIM) to align with sustainability requirements. It emphasizes the importance of BIM in the construction industry, particularly in light of the BIM Master Plan for Federal Buildings and the EU Taxonomy, which advocate for sustainable and circular construction practices. The seminar will cover a variety of topics, including the integration of sustainability analyses in BIM processes, workflows, and software tools that facilitate BIM-based life cycle assessments. Participants will explore multiple use cases that illustrate how BIM can be employed throughout the planning phases to meet the demands of circular construction.In addition to theoretical knowledge, the seminar will include a joint workshop where attendees can discuss the potential benefits of reusing building components and share lessons learned. Key aspects of the agenda will include model requirements such as Level of Development and Level of Information Need, as well as the roles and responsibilities of various project participants. The seminar aims to equip professionals, especially those in project leadership and management roles, with the necessary skills to conduct sustainability analyses using BIM models. The event will feature esteemed speakers, including Kasimir Forth, a postdoctoral researcher at ETH Zurich specializing in semantic 3D models, and Christian Herbst, a project manager at Averdung Ingenieure & Berater GmbH with extensive experience in electrical engineering and BIM implementation.
