About This Event

The event BIM in Rail Infrastructure Planning & Construction is organized by VDI Wissensforum GmbH and will take place at the Radisson Blu Hotel, Hamburg Airport, Germany. This seminar focuses on the application of Building Information Modeling (BIM) in rail construction, presenting both theoretical foundations and practical insights. Participants will learn about model-based collaboration, project requirements, and the challenges that arise in the planning and execution phases of rail infrastructure projects. The seminar will cover a range of topics over two days. On Day 1, attendees will explore the basics and development of BIM from the client's perspective, including discussions on the phased plan and the VRI BIM strategy of DB AG. The session will also delve into technology aspects such as coordination software, IFC, and Open BIM, while addressing DB specifications and standards. The added value of practical examples will be emphasized, showcasing how BIM services are tendered and implemented.Day 2 will shift focus to the practical application of BIM, examining opportunities and risks associated with its implementation. The seminar will highlight success factors for effective project application, principles of modeling, and the integration of information for practical use cases. Participants will engage in workshop sessions to practically implement BIM in their projects, discussing model-based contracts and invoicing processes. The event features notable speakers, including Dr.-Ing. Andreas Bach, Managing Director of Schüßler-Plan Digital GmbH, who brings over a decade of experience in the construction industry and has been instrumental in developing the BIM methodology for infrastructure planning. His contributions include numerous publications on BIM and a focus on digitalization in planning processes. Another key speaker is Anne Schacherl, Head of BIM Principles and Development at DB InfraGO AG, who has played a crucial role in the pilot and implementation of BIM methodology in infrastructure projects and has authored a chapter in the Railway Infrastructure Handbook. This seminar aims to equip participants, which may include managing directors, project controllers, project managers, BIM coordinators, and BIM managers, with the necessary knowledge and practical tools to enhance model-based collaboration in rail infrastructure construction. The event also aims to identify areas for future action to improve BIM practices, ensuring that attendees leave with a comprehensive understanding of the current standards, specifications, and challenges in the rail construction sector.
