About This Event

The Predicting Polyethylene Blown Film Properties from Processing Conditions and Polymer Morphology Webinar is an innovative online event designed to enhance the understanding of polyethylene (PE) film properties and their relationship to processing conditions and polymer morphology. This webinar addresses the critical need for accurate predictions of PE film properties, which are essential for accelerating innovation, reducing development and material costs, and optimizing coextrusion layer design. A major challenge in this field lies in the sensitivity of film properties, such as permeability, tear, and impact, to various thermo-mechanical processing conditions. Factors like die gaps, blow-up ratios, frost line heights, and melt temperatures all significantly influence these properties, creating a need for reliable predictive models. NOVA Chemicals has pioneered a streamlined two-step approach aimed at overcoming these challenges. This method begins with predicting the polymer's three-dimensional morphology based on rheological and orientation forces present between the die exit and the frost line. Following this, permeability is estimated from the average crystalline orientation in the machine direction. This innovative approach is being utilized to construct a new predictive model for NOVA’s BONFIRE® film development platform, which promises to improve both the accuracy and simplicity of PE film design. In addition to the main webinar, attendees will have access to supplementary courses such as the Introduction to Kraft Pulping and Bleaching and the Introduction to Wet End Chemistry. These courses are designed to provide a foundational understanding of kraft pulp mill operations and wet end chemistry troubleshooting, respectively, enhancing participants' knowledge and confidence in the industry. Overall, this webinar and its accompanying courses represent a significant opportunity for professionals in the field to deepen their expertise and drive advancements in polyethylene film technology.
