About This Event
The event titled 'Building Climate Resilience and Sustainability Education' takes place in Heraklion, Greece, and is designed to equip educators and trainers with the necessary tools and knowledge to assess regional vulnerabilities to climate change and natural hazards. Participants will engage in an interdisciplinary, project-based learning approach that focuses on promoting environmental awareness, community resilience, and collaborative climate action among students. The island of Crete serves as a pivotal case study for identifying vulnerabilities and developing educational responses tailored to local conditions.Through this course, educators will gain insights into key concepts of sustainability, vulnerability, and resilience in the context of the ongoing climate crisis. They will learn how to assess specific vulnerabilities within their own regions—covering environmental, social, and infrastructural aspects—and design suitable interdisciplinary learning activities. The course emphasizes strategies for fostering eco-literacy and encouraging student engagement in climate issues. Furthermore, participants will explore how to adapt their teaching practices based on varying hazard profiles and socio-economic contexts, ultimately aiming to build collaborative school-community cultures that promote climate action. The course features a variety of engaging formats, including lectures, group work, hands-on workshops, case studies, study visits, and excursions. Participants will utilize tools such as Canva, MindMeister, SDG resources, vulnerability mapping tools, geospatial data, project design templates, and collaborative platforms to enhance their learning experience. Additionally, attendees will enjoy coffee breaks featuring traditional Cretan products, a guided tour of the Historical Center of Heraklion, and will receive a small gift with traditional items from Crete. A Certificate of Attendance will be awarded to participants who attend at least 80% of the course, marking their commitment to building climate resilience and sustainability education.
