About This Event
The MOCA - Crisis Resource Management Training for Practicing Anesthesiologists is a comprehensive workshop designed to enhance the skills of anesthesiologists in managing critical events. Organized by the Center for Medical Simulation in Boston, this workshop aligns with the American Board of Anesthesiologists' (ABA) Maintenance of Certification in Anesthesia (MOCA 2.0®) Part IV Simulation Requirement, offering participants valuable insights and practical experience in crisis resource management. This intensive one-day workshop focuses on teamwork, communication strategies, and diagnostic problem-solving techniques essential for high-acuity situations in anesthesia. Participants will have the opportunity to engage in simulations where they will assume the role of the primary anesthesiologist, allowing them to practice managing specific critical events such as maternal resuscitation and pediatric airway emergencies. The workshop is designed to create a supportive and collaborative environment, promoting critical reflection and mindfulness in clinical practice. Participants will also learn to implement the new communication paradigm 'Name, Claim, Aim' to effectively establish team roles during crisis situations. The program is approved for 20+7 ABA MOCA 2.0® Part 4 CME credits and SEN patient safety credits, making it a valuable opportunity for continuous professional development.Throughout the workshop, participants will review and apply Crisis Resource Management principles in both simulated and real clinical settings. This includes strategies for speaking up, cross-monitoring, and maintaining situational awareness. The training emphasizes the importance of culture change within healthcare teams, encouraging open communication and peer support following adverse outcomes. Additionally, the course meets the criteria for risk management study as set by the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Medicine and has been approved by the CRICO/Risk Management Foundation of the Harvard Medical Institutions for continuing education credits. The Center for Medical Simulation ensures that all aspects of the workshop comply with accreditation standards, making it a trusted source for professional training in crisis management for anesthesiologists.
