About This Event

The seminar titled Security by Design for Machines and Systems aims to address the growing need for product security in the context of increasing digitalization in mechanical and systems engineering. This digitalization has led to heightened networking and a significant increase in the software component of machines and systems, thus elevating their vulnerability to cyber threats. The seminar, developed collaboratively by the Fraunhofer Institutes IEM and IOSB along with the VDMA Industrial Security working group, focuses on the necessity for companies to integrate cybersecurity considerations right from the early stages of product development, in alignment with legal requirements such as the Cyber Resilience Act, NIS-2, and the Machinery Ordinance. Participants of the seminar will learn to implement the principles of Security by Design, guided by the IEC 62443 standards that outline key requirements for industrial cybersecurity. The curriculum includes essential topics such as risk and threat analysis, identifying vulnerabilities in components and software, and applying secure system architectures throughout the product life cycle. Attendees will engage in group work, discussions with trainers, and feedback sessions to reinforce their understanding. Notable experts from the Fraunhofer Institutes, including senior scientists and researchers specializing in industrial cybersecurity and software technology, will provide insights into best practices and real-world use cases. This seminar is a critical step for professionals in machine and plant manufacturing to ensure that their products not only meet security requirements but also maintain high standards of safety for end-users.
