About This Event

The Florence Rail Regulation Conference is a pivotal event aimed at exploring advancements that can accelerate the growth of railways within the European Union. This conference serves as a dynamic platform where academics, industry representatives, and policymakers can engage in open discussions regarding innovative approaches to rail regulation. The primary focus of the conference is to identify practical solutions through thorough academic dialogue and constructive debate. It is part of a broader initiative that includes three academic conferences dedicated to Rail, Aviation, and Maritime regulation, alongside a Summer School on Transport Regulation, which collectively provide a forum for discussing various aspects of transport regulation.Organized by the Transport Area of the Florence School of Regulation at the European University Institute, the conference invites original contributions on a variety of topics such as competition in and for the market, capacity regulation, performance regulation, infrastructure financing, high-speed passenger services, and freight services. Contributions that utilize multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary approaches are particularly encouraged, fostering a blend of academic insight and practical application. The conference is tailored for academics, practitioners with academic inclinations, and PhD researchers. Notably, the best papers presented at the conference will have the opportunity for publication in the esteemed book series “Challenges in Transport Regulation in Europe and Beyond,” published by Edward Elgar. The format of this one-day event will include the presentation of academic papers, each lasting approximately 20 minutes, followed by a feedback and debate session of similar duration. The event aims to showcase 10 to 12 papers and engage a select group of 30 to 40 participants, including leading academics, high-level stakeholder representatives, and public officials, facilitating a rich policy debate. The conference will take place at the Theatre in Badia Fiesolana, located in Fiesole, Italy, providing a conducive environment for meaningful discussions. Registration is free, but attendees are required to register in advance. This event is an excellent opportunity for those interested in the future of rail regulation and its implications for the transport sector in Europe.
