According to Nigeria's Business Day, the International Finance Corporation (IFC), a member of the World Bank Group, signed a cooperation agreement with Nigeria's Middle Band Solar Ltd., a subsidiary of Alten, to jointly construct a 120 MW solar photovoltaic power plant in Lokoja, the capital of Kogi State. According to SHOWGUIDE exhibition navigation, this power plant is currently the largest solar project under construction in Africa, expected to provide clean electricity to 175,000 people and surrounding factories, and drive local economic growth and employment. Project funding is expected to be in place by the fourth quarter of 2016, with IFC's global infrastructure fund providing both funding and technical guidance. Hajiya Amina Mohammed, Nigeria's Minister of Environment, also recently revealed that the Nigerian federal government plans to build 13 GW of off-grid solar power to provide clean electricity to remote rural and impoverished communities.
