INTERNATIONAL FESTIVAL OF CONTEMPORARY MUSIC

Exhibition Scale: Less than 10,000 The International Festival of Contemporary Music Micro-Music is dedicated to digital sound, its production, and its propagation in acoustic space through advanced technology and experimental research. The festival showcases a wide range of stylistic trends and innovative creative research from the international music scene through installations, performances, and online formats. Many of these works are world premieres commissioned by the Music Biennale, as well as co-productions with major international festivals. Micro-Music aims to evoke music produced through microphone pickups and to study the microscopic nature of sound. It is a festival designed to enhance the beauty and complexity of digital sound and new compositional horizons. The specific acoustic imprint of each landscape and the act of listening as an interpretation of the surrounding space, through the clear and varied reverberation that the environment sends back to us, appear in the electronic creations of different parts of the festival, seeking fascinating sounds within the architectural context of Venetian architecture. Invited artists come from all over the world; they are sculptors of new digital sound entities, musical archaeologists searching for ancient vanished sounds, researchers into the mysterious, ephemeral, and magical nature of sound, and creators of unprecedented acoustic spells capable of engaging the public with immense musical murals. Listening to digital sound, without the visualization of the sound source and the gestural environment of execution and production, allows for a new musical ontology to be obtained through pure acoustic perception, made possible by the development of technologies related to the reproduction and propagation of sound in space. Just as we can enter internal matter with the aid of a microscope, similarly, we can extend our listening capabilities with microphones and reveal the complexity of the auric world, and with digital processing, we can reproduce every sound event, no matter how limited. Information captured in the inaudible realm reveals a world of sound that seemed closed to our perceptual abilities. Micro-Music, through theoretical and performance activities, presents the current research areas of listening phenomena, the validation of scientific data through vocalization processes, and different biotechnological models applied to sound generation.
