活动介绍
The International Symposium of the Pacific Arts Association, titled Oceanic Blazing Forms: Memory, Place-making and Imagination, will be held at the National Museum of Ethnology in Leiden, Netherlands. This symposium is an integral part of a broader exploration of art and material culture, specifically focusing on the rich traditions of western New Guinea, as highlighted in the upcoming exhibition Time for Papua. This exhibition will showcase a selection of the museum's collections and newly commissioned works that delve into the intricate relationships between time, memory, and place-making.The symposium aims to rethink global art histories and challenges conventional assumptions within art history and anthropology. It offers a platform for participants to engage with new approaches to material culture. Presenters can choose to deliver either a 20-minute paper followed by a discussion or a shorter 10-minute report. Performance contributions, including spoken word, dance, or music, can be presented in either 30-minute or 15-minute formats. Abstract submissions of 150-200 words are encouraged for both papers and performances, with acceptance notifications to be sent by October 6, 2025, allowing for adequate travel and accommodation arrangements. This event promises to be a vibrant gathering of scholars and artists exploring the dynamic intersections of art, memory, and identity in Oceania.
